There is a ton of chatter in the media these days about 'free speech' especially on college campuses. Conservatives claim their free speech rights are being denied while liberals say their speech is not free speech that it is hate speech. Several non-partisan analysts have pointed out that hateful or not, there is no provision in the concept of free speech which excludes any issues. In fact for centuries proponents of free speech have admonished the point that it is unpopular speech that needs to be protected the most and is actually the proof that there is free speech. There is NO subject that can be regulated.

But sure enough, here come the Republicans to introduce legislation to "protect" free speech. And just as night follows day the Democrats are not only against the Republicans, they claim the laws are not going to help anyone but more likely hurt them. And surprise, surprise, the media are right behind then, almost like an auxiliary branch of the Democratic party.

Thus, readers might be surprised to learn the Gazette Editorial Board opposes Republican-sponsored legislation to protect free speech rights at college campuses, where protesters have silenced speakers through intimidation and disruption. We oppose this legislative initiative because we feel these bills could lead to infringements on protesters' free speech rights. We would rather see UW System officials aggressively enforce current laws to protect the free speech rights of both speakers and protesters.

In this case I have to say that we DO NOT need more laws protecting free speech. We already have the most powerful law on the books, The Constitution of the United States of America. And last I checked, it is still in effect.

Trey Yingst who is the chief White House correspondent for the One America News Network (OANN), is reporting Monday (May 22, 2017) that three sources of the leaks flowing from the White House have been exposed.
Yingst claims his source informed him that the president will dismiss them when he returns to Washington from his foreign trip. Criminal prosecution may also be on the table for those responsible.

Seems like a pretty big deal, no? But now it has been over 24 hours and not a peep from the mainstream media. Only, a few blogs and the FoxNews website have mentioned the story.

When the New York Times publishes a leak, it is instant worldwide news. Why the silence on this one? One would think that given the news-media's position as the guardian of Freedom of the Press and thereby protector of the people, they would be all over this.

Melissa McCarthy is emerging as the leading voice, the chairman if you will, of the Committee of Comedians that has becoming the leading defender of the Republic under the regime of the 45th president, Donald Trump.

CNN, the star studded network which includes the great Brian Stelter, recently hosted the world renowned media critic David Zurawik about the dangers to the Republic and the vital efforts of Saturday Night Live and other entertainers.

The pointed satire, he said, is providing “the information a democracy needs to function.”

Comedy makes us laugh, he said, but it’s also a conduit of information to the public about how corrupt and unreliable the president is and what danger we’re in as a republic.

Despite the best attempts of celebrity journalists such as Woodward and Bernstein, Megan Kelly, Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, Wolf Blitzer, Don Lemon and well, I could go on and on but the real leaders in the attack against the president are the comedians. Stephen Colbert has rocketed to the top of the late night hosts virtually leaving the perennial champion, Jimmy Fallon in the dust. The Founding Fathers should have given the First Amendment to comedy.

Thanks to Jimmy Kimmel, Americans will continue to pay for each others healthcare, halting the administration's and the Republican's attempt to kill us all. Kimmel's moving tribute to the obligations we all owe to others, stopped the American Health Care Act right in its tracks. Everyone hopes his poor son will be safe and healthy.

Rounding out the first sting of stalwarts includes Seth Meyers, John Oliver, Samantha Bee, James Corden, Trevor Noah, not to mention Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon. Of course it is good for their business but helping the economy might help the country.

But the portrayal of Sean Spicer by Melissa McCarthy is the coup de grĂ¢ce. By mimicking and humiliating the most unpopular press secretary in history, McCarthy is the force and hence the Chairman of The Board of the Committee of the Comedians. Satirizing a popular and respected individual would prove to be a difficult task but attacking a person who by definition gets zero support from the left is a feat. Now Spicer has now lost any help from the so-called alt-right so his only foundation seems to be the neocons, the never-trumpers and the establishment Republicans. When Sean Spicer goes down Melissa McCarthy will be able to claim a great victory for America. For the sake of her career, it will come too soon.

My Dinner with Andre

Some of the fallout with the media's meltdown of the firing of FBI Director James Comey is the reported dinner between Donald Trump and Comey on January 27, 2017.

To recap: Trump said he asked and Comey told him he was not under investigation by the FBI. Now, Michael Schmidt writing in the New York Times, says that associates and friends of Comey have come forward to Schmidt to tell him Comey's version of the story. In the Schmidt tale, Comey is asked by Trump if Trump has his loyalty. As of May 13, 2017, Comey has not gone on the record himself.

On May 12, 2017, Trump took to his famous twitter account to say to the world that Comey would be wise to not talk about it. Trump tweeted, "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

To Times writers, and for that matter the rest of the hyterical media, this consitutes a threat to Mr. Comey.

It looks to me more of a warning to the the media. The media and therefore the public that they are obliged to keep informed, doesn't know who Schmidt talked to. He didn't give any details other that they are friends and associates of Comey. Has anyone even asked Schmidt? If Schmidt publishes this stuff and the rest of the media run with it and never question if it is true or not, who's the wiser?

Well, when Trump fires off a tweet, and like all his tweets the media can't refrain from reporting on them, that calls Schmidt's bluff. Schmidt doesn't have to reveal Comey's friends but he going to hold off until he, Schmidt, knows for sure if there are any tapes. If there are tapes, Schmidt could find himself without some of those "contacts" which are his bread and butter.

Department of Justice, sounds Orwellian

The Justice Department dropped charges against a Temple University physics professor in 2015 because it was embarrassed that the F.B.I. didn't have a clue as to what they were doing.

The FBI agents, clad in bulletproof vests and armed with guns and a small battering ram knocked the door down to his Penn Valley home just after 6 o'clock in the morning on May 21, 2015. The FBI held his wife and young daughters at gunpoint. In handcuffs they drove him to Philadelphia and strip-searched him and then they told him why he had been arrested. The overly dramatic tactics sound like something from a Hollywood movie.

The Department of Justice never explained their decision to drop the case or discuss the evidence that prompted them to charge him. Evidence, who needs evidence? The government should have just fell back on their old tried and true method of just investigate and investigate until the poor sap just pleads guilty to make the investigations go away.

So guess what? The citizen went and got a lawyer and sued.

His career has been ruined and his family lives in fear thanks to the police state tactics. It gets worse. Elected representatives of the people, who should be protecting us from incidents like this, mock us by jokingly saying things like "Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community — they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you." Now that quote wasn't in response to this exact incident but it represents the attitude of the people that run our government. Not to worry though, this creates a make work opportunity for other elected legislators to make it look like they have your back.

The Congressional Asian American Pacific Caucus and the Committee of 100 called on then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch to get to the bottom of things like this. The Committee of 100 group is influential. The have celebrities and raise a lot of money so that they can influence members of congress and donate money to their campaigns. After they get the money then they can rub shoulders with the politicians when they give them the money. Then they can mock us with their power to get Loretta Lynch to get the FBI to knock it off.

“My case has made so many scientists scared,” he said in the New York Times, “they will probably never apologize.”

Carrie Adamowski, an FBI spokeswoman, said the bureau had no comment on the suit.

On a Spanish language newspaper's website, former Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes (2009-2014) denied that his government has given prebends (Spanish for a stipend) to gang leaders, in exchange for a decrease in homicides during a truce that these groups held between 2012 and 2014.

When some of the gang leaders refused to share these stipends with other members of the gang, it caused a split. The MS503 reportedly broke away from the MS13 after some gang leaders allegedly received money during negotiations with former President Mauricio Funes’s government, but chose not to share the perks with the rest of the group. The dissident MS503 is largely comprised of two "programs," which are clusters of gang cells known as "clicas." Funes' denials comes after the Attorney General's Office leaked a series of audio recordings of gang witnesses who claimed that the Funes' administration provided gang leaders with perks including money, conjugal visits and transfers to lower security prisons in return for their participation in the truce.

The Mara Salvatrucha, or MS13, is perhaps the most notorious street gang in the Western Hemisphere. While it has its origins in the poor, refugee-laden neighborhoods of 1980s Los Angeles, the gang's reach now extends from Central American nations like El Salvador and through Mexico, the United States, and Canada. They rob, extort and bully their way into neighborhoods and have gradually turned to transnational crimes such as human smuggling and drug trafficking. Their activities have helped make the Northern Triangle -- Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras -- the most violent place in the world that is not at war. In October 2012, the US Department of the Treasury labeled the group a "transnational criminal organization," the first such designation for a US street gang.

The 18th Street Gang, also known as "Barrio 18," is one of the largest youth gangs in the Western Hemisphere. Like its better known rival, the Mara Salvatrucha (MS13), the Barrio 18 has cells operating from Central America to Canada, including the United States. 18th Street gang started near 18th Street and Union Avenue in the Rampart District of Los Angeles. When Central American gang members were arrested in the United States, they were then deported back to Central America including not just in El Salvador, but in Honduras and Guatemala as well.

Now leaders of MS13 are ordering a purge of the leaders of MS503. The orders : "Remove from the road" the MS-503 or revolutionaries. With that order, the gang members would be shredding a kind of code, a golden rule that existed between them: Do not harm relatives, especially parents, women and children of those members who committed crimes against the criminal group. According to sources, that is over.

A lot of attention has been directed lately to MS13 due to a rash of murders on Long Island, New York which is perilously close to the media capital of the United States. It would seem that the media is uncomfortable reporting on this and are being forced, against their will, to cover it because of news conferences and interviews held by U. S. Attorney General, Jeff Sessions. Then there is the news media's most feared weapon of destruction, the twitter account of Donald Trump. But neither the media, the FBI, Trump nor Sessions is talking about the 18th Street Gang or MS503.

Don't worry, they'll tell you when they think you have a need to know.

The bill before the House of Representatives, the one the Republicans call, 'Repeal and Replace,' and the one Democrats call Trump Care, has passed the House. Republican Reps are now boarding buses to take them to the Rose Garden of the White House to celebrate their big win. The Democrats, who are sure that the Republicans have committed the biggest political blunder in the history of the United States, who should be happy, seemed to be distressed.

For several weeks, after the failure of the Republican's first attempt to pass a repeal of Obamacare, the Democrats have been piling on about how bad the failure of the Republicans has been. They can't help themselves when it comes to trashing Donald Trump for his failure. They mock him because of his claims of being a great business man, the author of, "The Art of the Deal."

The Democrats are sure that this will plunge billions of Americans into a fate worse than death, and they are telling anyone (read: the media) who will listen that this is the absolute worse thing that could happen. Have they forgotten about Pootie?

When your opponent has made a bad mistake, you would think they would be happy. What is the phrase everyone always says, “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.” But the Democrats and the media seem to rushing to the aid of the poor Republicans so that can save them from their horrendous error. Even though the Republicans have been scoring historical political victories since the passage of Obamacare.

These are the Republicans who, in the minds of their critics, who can never get it right. The Republicans who get scorched in town halls. Town halls where the most excoriating clips get looped endlessly on the cable news channels, even FOX. Cable news channels who will boost to the front of the line any Republican who wants to bad-mouth his fellow Republicans on television. Republicans that are so bad that anyone who closely associates with them has opened themselves up to attack, even their children.

Well if the American journalists are so convinced, in their first draft of history, that this is the best day they have ever had in the era of Trump, CHEERS!

Two days ago, to mark his first 100 days in office,  President Trump went on CBS's "Face the Nation" television show and told the host, John Dickerson, that Trump referred to the show as, 'DEFACE the Nation.' So this is what I am going to refer to as a baseball pitcher hitting with a pitch a batter from the other team. So yesterday, Stephen Colbert, acting as the pitcher for the CBS team, threw a pitch at President Trump when he called Trump's presidency, "Disgrace the nation." Which is kind of like retaliation in the baseball sense.  So now the question is, which moniker sticks, 'deface the nation' or, 'disgrace the nation?'
